I, Robot - I, Renee

Was very surprised when I watched this movie with a friend. We were both expecting either to be fast asleep or be dragged on and on till the end credits. Alas! We were both captivated from beginning to the end.

It is a movie about the future, where we have robots as household help and one man's opposition to robot's existence. Until he meets Sonny, the robot that changes everything. Imagine a robot developed to feel like humans. Furthermore, a robot built like an adult with the intelligence of a machine but the emotions of a child. A conflict in itself. But of course the movie is all about a hero saving the world, blah, blah, blah, blah......

Here's my thought, though......if you build robots to feel like humans, why build them at all? Is it because humans are sick and tired of the dramas of other humans? Or is it about the quest for perfection?

It just made me pause and think about our existence now. How lucky we are to be interacting with others. I still would prefer an unkept home with a partner who would greet you with a smile and a warm hug, a foot massage on a rough day. Imagine cold steel digits touching your feet?! Or a conversation filled with ideas, hopes, and dreams.

The Spirit. The Soul. This is what moves humans. This is what makes us warm and compassionate, alive and vibrant. This is what keeps us moving forward toward a future no one knows. This is what keeps us alive. Different we are from all of God's creations. Thank you God!

Sometimes, the dramas amongst humans are still worth watching.
